In 1984 ECGMA was the initiator of the concept of catalogue game sales in South Africa, an example followed by the entire game industry in Soutern Africa.

The first hunting branch was established in 1996, now known as the ECGMA Algoa Hunting Club. It was not long and more branches were added throughout the Eastern Cape, namely Cradock Hunting Club, Kei Barrel and Bow Hunting and Conservation Club and Noorsveld. ECGMA is also one of the founder members of CHASA (Confederated Hunters Association of South Africa).

ECGMA is a diverse Association that caters for Recreational Hunters, Game Farmers, Professional Hunters and Conservancies. Our membership numbers have grown year on year and we have well over 1400 members.

With the implementation of the new Firearms Control Act in 2004, ECGMA accredited and registered itself as a training provider to offer firearm training for its members and the public in general.

Besides a number of objectives as defined in ECGMA’s Constitution, it strives to excel in two main objectives, namely service to our members and representation of our members on provincial as well as national levels.
